Hierarchical Tendencies and Regional Patterns in the World City Network: A Global Urban Analysis of 234 Cities

Previous explorations of the world city network have tended to focus on analyses of its upper ranks. Using a database on the global strategies of 100 financial and business firms across 234 cities, fuzzy classification analysis is used to define 22 urban arenas. With their " core' and "hybrid' memberships, these arenas are constituted by interweaving hierarchical and regional processes. A partir d'une banque de données à propos des stratégies mondiales d'une centaine d'entreprises commerciales et financières à travers 234 villes, on emploie une analyse par classement floue afin de déterminer 22 aires urbaines. Gestü tzt auf eine Datenbank betreff globale Strategien von 100 Geschäfts-und Finanzinstituten in 234 Großstädten wird eine "fuzzy' Klassifikationsanalyse eingesetzt, um 22 städtische Aktionsschauplätze zu bestimmen. Einschließlich Kern-und Mischformmitgliedschaften werden die Aktionsschauplätze durch Verschlingung hierarchischer und regionaler Prozesse ausgemacht. Die Ergebnisse schließen Bewertungen zuvor nicht in Einschätzungen geführter, in entfernter Reichweite liegender Teile des Großstadtnetzes der Welt ein.
