Extension of depictable object size with gamma radiation. X. Comparison of the methods

From the standpoint of practical application to the testing of materials, radiographic films were prepared and evaluated according to eleven different methods. An enhanced and enlanged extraction of information was obtained by only three methods: chemical reducer, general copying, and face shield mat copying. The three types of procedures. which yielded approximately the same degree of improvement, were compared with respect to economy, time requirements, and special applications. For the recognition of fine details in materials differing strongly in thickness, the chemical reducer method appeared most efficient and least expensive. In that particular case, the original radiograph must be intentionally overexposed. (HBG)
