Losses' origins in a 40 GHz stripline circulator with 10 μm thick barium hexagonal ferrite films

DIOM Laboratory in collaboration with RADIALL designs and manufactures a 40 GHz circulator with 10 μm barium hexagonal ferrite films. The origin of losses in a thin film circulator is studied because experimental measurements on prototypes showed that insertion losses were too much high for industrial applications. Analytical and numerical modeling demonstrates that the conductor losses are preponderant with respect to the magnetic and dielectric losses in thin film based circulators unlike bulk ferrite circulators
