(Remediation, acting as a remedy or solution to a problem. Use of remedial methods to improve skills or reverse environmental damage)
The general perspective of this chapter questions if the idea of achieving sustainability in the fashion (and by association) textiles industry is a utopian ideal? To begin to mine the answer to this fundamental question, in the first instance it is essential to contextualize the significance of the sector by reflecting upon the importance of fashion textiles now, in relation to scale of employment and the emotional connection of clothes to consumers (people). Secondly to assess the range of those who benefit from the global industry and the role that clothing and cloth, has played driving global economies over centuries (profit). Finally to tease out examples of the physical impact this industry has and is having on the environment (planet). The objectives will be to draw together some smart solutions which may be possible, discuss a re-make case study with industrial implications for waste recovery and highlight the change of mind set consumers manufacturers and retailers could take, to move towards the contradiction of a more sustainable fashion industry.
