A SIMPLEAND ROBUST DIRECTIONDETECTIONALGORITHM FOR FASTH.264INTRAPREDICTION

InH.264/AVCintra framecoding, therate-distortion optimization isemployed toselect theoptimal coding mode toachieve theminimumrate-distortion cost. Duetoalarge numberof combinations of codingmodes,the computational burdenbecomes extremely highinintra prediction. Inthis paper, wepropose afast, efficient but reliable vector baseddetection algorithm forH.264intra framecoding system. Theproposed algorithm effectively estimates theedgedirection inside theblock tonarrow down thepredictive modestoreduce theRDO calculations. Experimental results showthat theproposed methodcan reduce theencoding timebyabout60%withnegligible coding loss.
