A Numerical Simulation on Various Snubber types for Hydrogen Compressing System

As one of the most promising energy resources, because of the renew-ability, hydrogen gas has become popular. In order to fulfill the economic aspect of hydrogen mass production, performance of Hydrogen station must be improved. The most important system which is hydrogen compressing process has not been developed well. One of these components is snubber which has function to reduce pulsation waveform and to remove the impurities in the hydrogen gas. Therefore a snubber is equipped by a buffer, an inclined plate attached inside it. Two comparing parameters, used to examine a snubber performance, are pressure lost and pressure amplitude reduction. The best snubber is the one which has the least pressure lost and the most pressure amplitude reduction. An experiment to investigate the importance of buffer had been done and gave empirical proof that with-buffer type is better than without-buffer type. Furthermore, investigating geometric size for optimum with-buffer snubber has been done by numerical analysis approach. In this study, thirteen different models were numerically compared using CFD software program. The independent variables were snubber height, buffer width and buffer inclined angle. Meanwhile the snubber diameter was kept constant.
