Temperature sounding in the planetary boundary layer by RASS—system analysis and results

Abstract A comparative analysis between the traditional acoustic pulse-modulated (ac-pm) and an acoustic continuous wave (ac-cw) RASS is presented. It is shown that the ac-cw mode is superior to the ac-pm mode with respect to wind interference and reproducibility of the data. These results are supported by examples of measurements for the ac-pm RASS as well as for an experimental version of an ac-cw RASS.
