Socially Compatible Technology Design

Information technology systems that are meant to facilitate social networking are successful only if they are embedded in the individual activities and social processes of their users. In order to be able to consider these success factors as early as during the development process of information technology, a systematic development methodology is necessary that embraces the interdisciplinary requirements for the social compatibility of technology. But how can these non-functional demands of various scientific disciplines be unified and constructively converted into functional design proposals? The VENUS Development Method for a Socially Compatible Technology Design offers a solution to this problem, which is compatible with traditional software development methods. This chapter presents the theoretical foundations and the approach of the method using the design of UC applications as an example.
