Conversion optique radio dans le domaine millimétrique : Nouveaux composants pour les télécommunications

The future looks bright for optic fibre access networks, which offer high throughput capacity for handling high share rates. For the last link in the chain -from the optical network terminal to the subscriber's set- a millimetre-wave radio hook-up represents an elegant alternative to the conventional copper wire and coaxial connector. This novel solution will require design and development work on coupling systems. This article begins by introducing the fibre-radio concept, then goes on to discuss major optic-to-millimetre-wave coupling techniques (fast lasers, electroobsorption modulators, optically-controlled millimetre-wave oscillators).
