Prognosis of sewability problems in garment manufacture using computer-based technology

Two of the most troublesome sewability problems in garment manufacture, seam pucker and sewing damage, are considered. Intelligent computer-based systems which have been developed to forecast those problems before manufacture for the benefit of production efficiency and garment quality are discussed. The system for the prognosis of seam pucker is based on a mathematical model developed from extensive sewing experiments and on the measurement of fabric thickness and flexural rigidity. The sewing damage system is based on instrumentation and interfacing of an industrial sewing machine with a computer for real-time dynamic measurements of sewing data
