Precious-metal thermocouples

AbstractThe factors involved in the selection of thermocouples for any application were listed by Roeser in 1941 and similar lists of the properties requiring consideration were given by Finch and by Caldwell, both in 1962. These factors are entirely those which may be dictated by common sense, but all stress the necessity to use materials that are homogeneous, and resistant to change both with respect to mechanical and electrical properties in the environment to which they are exposed. It is this requirement of stability that has led to the widespread use of precious-metal thermocouples.
