AGC strategies : A comprehensive review

The present work is intended as a comprehensive review of the recent advances in the area of automatic generation control (AGC) of interconnected power systems. Emphasis has been given to the review of earlier concepts in the area of automatic control of electrical power systems and updates of the same with recent developments that have taken place in this field. The salient features of AGC strategies based on centralized, decentralized, and multi-level control schemes using classical, optimal, sub-optimal, and modal control techniques with linear, non-linear, and continuous and discrete models have been highlighted. Attention has also been paid to recent advances in AGC schemes such as digital AGC schemes, self-tuning and microprocessor-based adaptive control schemes, variable structure AGC schemes. The paper incorporates a bibliography of the published work reported in the field of automatic generation control.
