Resonance effects in wake shedding from parallel plates: Some experimental observations

Abstract A series of tests with air flowing over a cascade of flat parallel plates has shown that pressure fluctuations occur with amplitudes of the same order of magnitude as the air stream dynamic head. The fluctuations form a sequence of resonances and are excited by wake shedding from the plate trailing edges. The resonances are caused almost entirely by acoustic effects and have little or no relation to the mechanical vibration of the plates.
