Charts and equations are given for calculating the rate of heat transfer between surfaces at known temperatures or the temperature of one surface when the temperature of the other surface and the heat flux are specified. Results are accurate if dimensions of the surfaces are large compared to gap width and if convective heat transfer is negligible. The charts can be used to calculate the heat transfer between stacked graphite blocks in reactor cores and reflectors and between thermal shields and parts adjacent to them such as biological shields, structural materials, and reflectors.
