A Novel Hierarchical Network Selection Strategy with Adaptive QoS Level Scheme in 2-Tier Multi-rate Mobile WiMAX Networks

The adaptive network selection, efficient resource management, call admission control (CAC) strategies in mobile WiMAX must consider the characteristic of multi-rate to reduce the call blocking probability (CBP) and call dropping probability (CDP). In this paper, we propose a hierarchical network selection strategy (HNSS) based on grey relational analysis (GRA) to switch to the proper base station. If there is not enough bandwidth since a new call request arrived, the adaptive QoS level scheme (AQLS) adjusts QoS level based on scalable video coding (SVC) for various traffic types. In additional, the candidate BS performs prediction reservation bandwidth scheme (PRBS) is proposed to improve call dropping probability (CDP).
