Seismic behaviour of steel sections

Abstract In this paper, the experimental results are described and discussed which were obtained during an extensive testing program on the cyclic behaviour of steel members carried out at the Structural Engineering Department of the Politecnico di Milano. The numerical simulation models which were developed and calibrated on such experimental test data are presented. A simple cumulative damage model and some possible failure criteria for steel members under seismic loading, developed with reference to the experimental results, are also presented and discussed.
