Fabrication of head-flyable nanohole patterned media and dynamic write/read measurement with GMR head

Fabrication of alumina nanohole media and write/read experiments using a merge-type GMR head on such patterned media were studied. By optimizing the conditions for anodization, electrodeposition and surface polishing, we have succeeded in measuring the write/read characteristics. The Cobalt filled nanohole media with a pitch of 63 nm and an aspect ratio of 6.3 showed a D50 of 200 kFCI. Detailed analysis showed that the microscopic waveform seems to have a dependence on the nanohole array location.
