The study of cylinder liner plateau honing process

Abstract A lot of slide-honed cylinder surface topographies were measured and analysed in two and three dimensions. The correlation and regression analyses of parameters included in ISO 13565-2 (Rk group) and in ISO 13565-3 (Rq group) standards as well as of their 3D extensions were carried out. The Rk group of parameters was also compared with the Rq family as regards stability. In slide honing research the effect of honing parameters on cylinder liner surface topography was studied. All selected surface topography parameters were response variables. We found from the experiment that the coarse honing pressure is important parameter of the honing process. It almost defines the final valley depth. The plateau honing time is the second substantial machining parameter. The effect of plateau honing pressure on cylinder liner profile roughness parameters is negligible.
