Fouling of crude oil preheat exchangers

A simple refinery-specific correlation has been established between the total fouling rate and tube wall temperature of individual heat exchangers in the preheat exchanger train of a crude oil distillation unit. The correlation has been obtained from plant data, and has subsequently been used successfully to predict the reduction in thermal performance of the preheat train with light crude oils following a major shutdown for thorough cleaning
