The Internet of Things is very popular today with billions of devices connected, and a number of standardization bodies trying to standardize the communication and other aspects of IoT. However there is no easy method currently available for web developers to access IoT devices from within webpages using web APls, especially when they are not aware of the URIs of the connected devices within the network or the URIs hidden within a sub network. The Web of Things (WoT) standard allows access to IoT devices via the web, but only where the URIs are public and known in advance. In this paper we propose a mechanism for the same, using which any web content developer can access and change the properties of connected IoT devices from within a webpage. Our proposed approach is easy to use and secure, with automated registration of new IoT devices within the same network. We implement our proposed APIs using a web runtime engine running in the background, and present details of a prototype implementation on a mobile phone along with a LED bulb running our web runtime engine.
