Organizational Culture Profiles of the Chinese Contractors

China’s high-speed economic growth in the past decade has brought about a good opportunity for the development of China’s construction industry. The value of the total investment in fixed assets in 1999 amounted to 2988 billion RMB Yuan while it was only 91 billion in 1980(National Bureau of Statistics, 2000). However, the Chinese contractors are often accused of poor performance and low effectiveness in terms of quality, and profitability (Yao, 1998, Sha and Lin, 2001). How to improve the effectiveness of the Chinese construction companies remains a focus of investigation.
