Gain-transient accumulation across EDFA cascades in optical packet-switched networks

We investigate packet transmission across EDFA cascades (≤40) over different timescales. We observe that gain-transients accumulate for 3 EDFAs variants, but, a transient-suppressed EDFA out-performs conventional amplifiers, particularly for long cascades and network reconfiguration times.
