Evaluation of Three Short-Form Versions of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Three short forms of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI; Briggs & Myers, 1976) were evaluated: (a) Form AV, (b) a 32-item form developed using the Form F scoring system, and (c) a 52-item form developed using item-response theory. Test information functions indicated that the short forms provided appreciably less information, especially in the critical area around the type cutoff score; discriminant analyses revealed unacceptably high (20%-36%) rates of type disagreement between short and long forms. Alternative strategies for reducing MBTI testing time are discussed.
