Strip Method of Design

The purpose of this book is to summarize all available knowledge on the practical application of the equilibrium theory for reinforced concrete slabs, a special case of which is known as the strip method, where the twisting moment is given a value of zero. The aim has been to help in producing safe designs for most slabs, including those that are irregular in plan or that carry unevenly distributed loads. The subject matter is dealt with under nine chapter headings as follows:- (1) basic principles. (2) the simple strip method. (3) radial and tangential moments in circular slabs with polar-symmetrical load and support conditions. (4) solutions including torsional moments. (5) concentrated loads and point supports. The advanced strip method. (6) special rationalized design procedure for point-supported slabs. (7) the choice of the most suitable distribution of reinforcement. (8) comparison with yield-line theory. (9) comparisons with test results. /TRRL/
