SOME ASPECTS OF THE REVIEW OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIAN STATE ROAD AUTHORITIES BRIDGE DESIGN CODE (NAASRA BDC)

The National Association of Australian State Road Authorities is revising its bridge design code in a limit states format. This paper gives some details of the reasons for such a revision, it examines the events which led to the particular form of some limit state design codes elsewhere and the acceptance of these codes. The code committee structure is outlined as is the liaison with the Standards Association of Australia and the contribution made by the Austrualian Road Research Board, academic institutions, and the association of consulting engineers of Australia in developing the new code. Some general details of some chapters of the code to be entitled the NAASRA Bridge Design Code are outlined, as are the developments in equipment to obtain traffic load data. (Author/TRRL)
