CORSIKA-based simulation studies of the TACTIC Array

The TACTIC is a compact array of 4 synchronously-tr acking Cerenkov telescopes , placed at the centre and the 3 corners of a triangle of side 20 m. The central telescope , referred to as the Imaging Element (IE), will eventuall y carry a photomultiplier-tube based, 349-pixel imaging camer a (at present , 225 pixels), covering a FoV of 6 6 with apixel resolution of 0:31. In thispaper, weusetheCORSIKA air-shower simulation code to estimat e the quality factor of the IE based on image-supercut s background rejection procedur e and examine the possibility of exploiting the relatively large FoV of the TACTIC imaging camer a for concurrent on-source/o ff-source monitoring.
