Ratio standard for DC resistance using a Josephson potentiometer

A Josephson potentiometer for the comparison of two-terminal DC resistors in the range from about 10 k Omega to at least 10 M Omega is described. It is based on a three-terminal Josephson junction series array. Resistance ratios from 1:1 to 1:10 are compared with a single device. Measurements with a prototype instrument show a relative reproducibility of 1 part in 10/sup 7/. Besides standard Josephson junction series arrays with a characteristic impedance of the stripline Z approximately=3 Omega high-impedance arrays with Z approximately=77 Omega were realized. >
