A Study on the Improvement of T-Intersection Signal Timing

In urban traffic systems, intersections are often to be capacity bottlenecks and high accident locations. T- intersections are generally less efficient than standard four-leg intersections. This paper addresses the traffic conflicts of T- intersections and introduces the traffic signal phases that could improve the efficiency of T-intersections. According to the general signal timing methodology for intersections, an improved method for T- intersections was introduced. Through a case study, the improved method proves to be more suitable for T- intersection signal settings and has a high practical value.
