Observer-based Multivariable Control of Rolling Mills

Abstract The synthesis methodology developed by Kimura (1985) based on the design theory of output regulators established basically by Wonham (1974) has been successfully applied to the control system of rolling mills. This method has the following remarkable features. (1) The obtained controller has a physically reasonable structure. (2) The disturbances are properly estimated and dealt with. (3) The synthesis can be calculated by hand, keeping the design procedure tractable.
