On the design of a disc-type surface-mounted permanent magnet motor for electric scooter application

The design of a single-sided disc-type surface-mounted permanent magnet motor for electric scooter application is presented. The motor is aimed at providing easier construction and direct driven capability compared with commonly used brushless DC motors; hence an in-wheel type motor structure can be achieved. The hardware design and theoretical modeling procedures are described in detail, along with appropriate field-oriented control framework designs for providing practical system application requirements.
