Sum-Rate Analysis of MIMO Broadcast Channel with Random Unitary Beamforming

In this paper, we present the exact sum-rate analysis of the multiuser MIMO system with random unitary beamforming (RUB). Specifically, with the derived statistics of ordered beam signal to interference and noise ratio, we obtain the analytical expression of system sum rate for arbitrary number of users. The effects of system parameters, including the number of users, the number of transmit antennas and the signal to noise ratio (SNR), on the sum rate are examined through numerical methods. Besides, we develop an upper bound for the sum rate, which reveals that the sum rate with RUB benefits mainly from multiuser directional diversity gain when SNR is high.
