Overview of nonlinear motion response of floating structures

The movement of floating structures over the sea is a typical nonlinear phenomenon.There are many nonlinear factors affect the floating structures when they are moving in the wind and waves;and the coupling of different forms of motions is difficult to be described accurately with the linear dynamics.A summary of the recent research and a brief introduction of research results about nonlinear motion response of floating structures under the environmental loads is presented.The main prospects of the research works about nonlinear motion response are reviewed in detail in three aspects:large amplitude nonlinear rolling in waves,nonlinear coupling motion by parametric excitation,and heave-pitch coupling motion with no mooring of SPAR platform.At last,on the basis of above overview,some proposals which should be further studied are offered.
