Truss structure optimum design and its engineering application

Abstract A method is developed for the optimum design of trusses, including constraints on tensile and compressive stresses, displacements and bounds on design variables. A practical problem of engineering structural design is solved. The method takes into account the efficiencies achieved for more simple models where the allowable stresses of compression are constant. The stresses of compression with buckling depend on the element cross-section and are prescribed in the Code TJ17-74. The effectiveness of the method is shown through examples, including the problem of a tower crane's jib.
