New options for mobility and transport infrastructure in the post-carbon society

A main driving force of the French economy, as well as a significant issue for its prosperity, fossil fuels support 95% of the transport sector in the form of oil, and about 54% of this fossil fuel is used by transport globally. A major cause of increased carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere is the consumption of fossil fuels for the purpose of generating energy, and there is a growing realization globally that a comprehensive strategy is needed for a "decarbonization," which would force highly developed countries to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by negative-80% of 1990 levels by the year 2050. It is necessary to consider ways in which mobility and transport infrastructure must be organized in the future, in terms of post-fossil fuel mobility, using renewable energy sources, high energy efficiency and physical strength.
