The Challenge of Developing Primary Standards Mixtures of Carbon Dioxide at Atmospheric Levels to Establish Traceability to GHG Monitoring Analysis

Thisarticledescribeshowinrecentyearstheneedforthequalitycontrol,reliability and traceability of analytical results has been strongly emphasised. The National InstituteofMetrology,QualityandTechnology,isinvolvedinimprovingcalibration andmeasurement capabilities toprovidehighconfidence level in accordancewith thelatestregulationregardinggreenhousegasesstandards.Thisarticledescribesthe gravimetricproductionofcertifiedgaseousreferencematerialsofcarbondioxidein atmosphericsyntheticairthatareusedtomonitoritsconcentrationintheatmosphere. Consideringthecontributionsfromgravimetrypreparationanditsverificationanalysis bycavityringdownsystem(CRDS)therelativeexpandeduncertaintyofthestandard mixtureofcarbondioxidewaslowerthan0.5%fortherangestudiedfrom370to550 μmol/mol,whichiscomparabletotheaverageof0,25%relativeuncertaintiespresented oninternationalstandardsmixtures.
