Energy Efficient Non-Disjoint Set Based Target Coverage Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks

A Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) is gaining importance due to its widespread applications but such networks have limited energy. The sensor nodes are randomly deployed to monitor targets inside the deployment region. Maximization of active subsets of sensors covering all the target points is one of the important feature in WSNs to enhance the network lifetime. In order to save energy of the deployed sensors, target must be monitored by atleast one sensor at any time. This paper proposes a non-disjoint set based target coverage scheme for WSN to maximize active subsets of sensors covering all targets. The estimation of non disjoint set is done based on residual energy and the distance between the sensor and the targets. The simulation evaluation shows improved performance in terms of network lifetime.
