High-pressure MWssbauer resonance studies have been made on a number of compounds of iron with Group V and Group VI elements (S, Se, P, As, Sb). As indicated in Table 1, all these materials have either the orthorhombic C-18 marcasite or the hexagonal B-8 NiAs structure. All compounds were synthesized with iron enriched to 70 per cent Fe"7. All compounds except FeS are paramagnetic and exhibit a quadrupole split spectrum similar to the atmospheric spectrum of FeSb2 shown at the top in Figure 1. FeS is antiferromagnetic, as shown at the top in Figure 2. The high-pressure Mbssbauer techniques have been presented previously.1
