Multicriteria Ranking Wastewater Disposal Alternatives For Coastal Towns

ABSTRACT The main economic activity of the Poljicha Riviera in Yugoslavia as well as otherparts of the Adriatic coast is tourism. This activity can be successfully developed if numerous conditions are satisfied among which one of the most important is a clear sea. The region of the Poljicha Riviera has unique characteristics with regard to the problem of waste water disposal. Tourism activities create significant oscillations in the quantity of waste water to be treated. The conditions necessary for solving these problems in Yugoslavia are not very favorable considering both financial and technological aspects. Various criteria must be considered to find the most appropriate solutions. Besides economic criteria, other criteria must also be taken into account, such as social, technical, and environmental.
