Design Evolution Using the Artisan-Patron Model: The Case of Automobile Evolution

This paper uses the descriptive Artisan-Patron (AP) model to create a transparent framework to analyze how environmental variables such as fuel price, price of steel, and CAFE legislation affected the evolution of the automobile (namely horsepower and weight). The analysis and results demonstrate the utility of the AP model as a frame for complex multi-epoch adaptive design problems.Copyright © 2005 by ASME
