INITIATION OF CHLORIDE-INDUCED REINFORCEMENT CORROSION IN CONCRETE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS--PREDICTION. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE

A discussion of an earlier paper with the aforementioned title by C.Q. Li, published in this journal (Volume 99, Number 2, March-April 2002), is given. The discussers commend the author for conducting a study on the initiation of chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion in concrete structural members with a large number of specimens in which the cracks were kept open by anchoring 2 specimens with a roller at the middle. Large-sized specimens were also studied. The discussers have conducted research in this area and provide additional insights into the corrosion initiation time at the cracked region. Closure from the author is also provided on the topic of corrosion initiation time in reinforced concrete.
