An effective coarse cell search method and FPGA realization in very low SNR environments for TD-SCDMA systems

The cell search is an important issue in TD-SCDMA systems, which conventionally is realized by correlation detection, resulting in high complexity and high power consumption. In order to degrade the complexity significantly, this paper presents a novel coarse cell search scheme of TD-SCDMA system, where we use the implicit power transition in the special frame structure and introduce a power ratio detection (PRD) comparing with the conventional non-coherent algorithms. Moreover, an effective realization of FPGA is studied in detail, and the FPGA tests show a good performance in very low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) environments.
