Validation of a new tracer model of non-steady-state glucose kinetics

Measurement of hepatic glucose production under non-steady-state conditions requires the use of a model. Moreover it is not possible to measure hepatic glucose production independently. In this paper we generate a dualtracer data base for model development and validation. A new non-linear, physiologically-based model of non-steady-state glucose kinetics is proposed and it is shown to perform better than the classical models of Steele and Radziuk. The new structure is thus a candidate model to describe the impulse response for reconstructing hepatic glucose production by deconvolution.
