Wasteful Energy Conserving Maximum Lifetime Routing for Wireless Sensor Network

Highly dense deployment property of sensor network instigates wasteful energy consumption (e.g. idle listening, retransmission due to packet collision, overhearing etc). To achieve energy efficiency and prolonged lifetime nodes must conserve energy as much as possible. This can be accomplished by amortizing the energy cost of superfluous packets and idle state energy consumption. In this paper we propose a routing protocol which reduces transmission cost by creating a tree based on residual energy and distance and at the same time lessen the redundant transmission due to node density by exercising well-known periodic sleep protocol. Our proposed algorithm creates energy and distance based sink rooted tree (EDSRT) and disseminates data through the tree. Non-leaf nodes and leaf nodes of the tree act as forwarding node and nonforwarding node respectively. Leaf nodes conserve wasteful energy by keeping radio transceiver off. Simulation shows our algorithm is better in terms of energy utilization and network lifetime.
