Focusing Particles and Quantifiers in Adjectival Phrases

In this chapter, adjectival phrases (APs) will be considered in detail as they give rise to some interesting predictions for the theory of LF-movement we are developing. The primary reason for this is that German has a number of adjectives which select a DP-complement and assign Case to it.1 As in the verbal projection, the DP-complement must appear to the left of A, while a PP-complement can occur on either side of A. In other words, only the PP-complement can be extraposed. Examples of DP-complements are given in (1) and (2), examples of PP-complements in (3) and (4):
