Characteristics of printed antennas and arrays covered with a layer of printed strip-grating for suppression of cross-polarization

A method of analysis for printed antennas and infinite arrays which rigorously includes the effects of the strip grating is outlined. The radiation characteristics of a printed dipole antenna with and without a grating layer directly placed on the antenna are presented, showing significant improvement of the cross-polarization level. The polarization characteristics when the grating is placed electrically far off the antenna surface are also presented, also showing improvements in the cross-polarization level. The normalized scan characteristics of an infinite phased array with and without a grating layer placed immediately on top of the antenna are also shown.<<ETX>>
