This contribution discusses aspects of the simulation of the radar cross section (RCS) for electrically large scatterers. Such simulations are needed in the development of automotive radar systems or aerospace applications. Simulating the RCS of large scatterers is typically very demanding in terms of computer runtime and memory if performed by a full wave simulation method. An asymptotic method is much less affected by these restrictions and therefore a good choice for this kind of simulation. On the other hand, asymptotic simulations are limited to structures of moderate geometrical complexity, i.e., features with sizes much larger than the simulated wavelength. In this work a hybrid domain decomposition framework is therefore used with an asymptotic method and a full wave simulation method to leverage the advantages of both simulation types.
