The manufacturing significance of solidification modeling

Modeling of solidifcation is becoming increasingly feasible, even in manufacturing-scale processes. Certain critical features of solidification can be modeled very accurately and used to predict casting results, including defects. The advent of faster computers and continuing software development bode well for the future of modeling in foundry operations.
