Some user friendly models to support head-nurses management activities

Within the framework of a more rational use of the means, stimulated by the medical and nursing staff demography control and by the activity rating imposed by the government, hospitals are brought to regroup facilities and human resources. The mutualisation of resources leads to numerous problems, in particular regarding paramedical staff management. Facing this new reality, the head-nurses miss management models as well as computer tools. In most of the cases, few budgets of investment are available and the only useful office automation tool remains the spreadsheet. In this context, quantitative human resource management models have been investigated, adapted and tested. The models have to be simple enough to be solved by a linear programming tool available in office automation or in free solvers. After a presentation of quantitative human resource management problems in the actual hospital context, we propose some generic models (linear, integer and mixed programming) and we discuss the final use of those models using a simple solver.
