Abstract In this paper we propose the economic scheduling problem of hydro-thermal power system including cascade hydro power stations and build the mathematical model or optimal unit commitment and active power dispatch, derive an efficient algorithm for its approximate linear integer programming.we decompose the power plants into two classes using the decomposition and coordination method for large-scale systems and improve the method for modifying the Lagrangian multipliers of hydro-thermal power plants and finally, combine the methods of fuzzy mathematics and operations research for solving economic scheduling problem of cascade hydro-power stations. We have programmed FORTRAN programs on the computer M-340 for test computations, the daily coal consumption rate decreases in considerable percent, and we Can obtain larger economic benefit. The mathematical model and optimization algorithms presented in this paper may be easily generalized and applied to economic scheduling problem for other large regional power systems.
