GA-Based Non-Linear Harmonic Estimation

Knowing the frequency contents present in a network enables the operation and design engineers to predict the functioning of the system with respect to certain equipment and can also be used to identify the location and extent of use of filters and other protective devices. The usual frequency estimation techniques are dependent on some linear approximation for the nonlinear distortion present in the system. This paper presents the use of Genetic Algorithms (GA) with nonlinear system structure to estimate the amplitudes and phases of various frequency components present in the system. In this paper, the general nonlinear formulation problem of estimation of harmonics is solved using Genetic Algorithms (GAs).
